Dickey Participates as NewME Accelerator Judge

June 30th, 2013

Women and minority start-ups and founders are the focus of the critically acclaimed NewME Accelerator program that is holding pop up tours in cities across the country this year. This past weekend, the spotlight was on Memphis as local entrepreneurs got one-on-one coaching from Silicon Valley business leaders, hands on workshops, and the opportunity to pitch their idea to local and Valley-based investors.

Sunday evening was the culmination of the three-night coaching event held at the FedEx Institute of Technology, University of Memphis campus, and Marston COO and partner, Jimmy Dickey, was honored to be one of the judges for the evening.

“The Demo Day judging event was very interesting and fun,” notes Dickey. “I judged about 18 teams in a two hour period and was impressed with the caliber of creativity and big ideas. To top off the evening, one of our clients won first place. Good things are going on in Memphis.” The evening’s winners were Charleson Bell, BioNanovations; Richard Billings, ScrewPulp; and Brit Fitzpatrick, MentorMe.

Start Co., formerly Launch Your City, is a Memphis non-profit that advances high-growth start-ups and is credited with bringing the NewME pop up series to Memphis.
