This month, The Marston Group sponsored Derby Days, a week-long fundraiser benefitting the Greater Memphis Special Olympics put on by the University of Memphis Sigma Chi Chapter.
The fundraiser included daily events such as Penny Wars, Silent Auction, Field Day, and Skit Night — which The Marston Group sponsored. The Marston Group intern Lukas Hooper is an active member of Sigma Chi chapter at the University of Memphis.
As part of their continued effort to give back to the community, The Marston Group gave their employees the option to choose a non-profit for the firm to sponsor on their behalf. “We enjoy giving back to our community and want to encourage our employees to do the same,” said COO and Senior Partner Jimmy Dickey, Jr. “We get an opportunity to see what is near and dear to them, and they are able to take ownership of the donation through active engagement. Everyone wins.”
Founded in 1934, Derby Days is held by over 220 Sigma Chi chapters across the country and in Canada, and has helped to raise over $2.5 million for numerous charities nationwide. The University of Memphis Sigma Chi chapter raised over $8,000 for the local Special Olympics in 2011 and about $13,000 in 2012. This year’s results were nearly a repeat success with just over $13,000 raised for the philanthropy.
