Accountants Night at the Art Village Gallery

The Marston Group, PLC has long been a supporter of the local arts. The Firm’s East Memphis office features works by several Memphis area artists, many of whom are clients. This year, Nigerian native and Memphis artist Ephriam Urevbu hosted the accountants from TMG at a cocktail hour preceding the downtown Art Trolley Tour, a weekly Friday night event in the South Main Historic District of downtown Memphis. As the ring of the trolley sounded, restaurants, shops and art galleries opened their doors to the public. Mr. Ubvreu opened his gallery, Art Village Gallery, early just for us. We all sipped wine and enjoyed Nigerian food by Hilda International Gourmet catering, while viewing the extraordinary works on display.

“The goal of my gallery is to showcase artists from exotic lands. You can indulge in the works of artists from as far away as Columbia, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and more,” says Ubvreu. Zeinu Mudeser is an up and coming artist who Ubvreu discovered (in Ethiopia) and then mentored. His painting, “COOL JAZZ”, acrylic on canvas, is featured at left and the original is currently on display in TMG’s main lobby.

Upon first glance, Mudeser’s art appears to be a simple abstraction. As the viewer explores the work, the senses reveal deeper images as the layers unfold. Mr. Marston and Mr. Urevbu both feel strongly about the fact that because most people spend the majority of their time in an office setting, employers should try to make that a pleasant and attractive space for employees. The Marston Group owns 12 pieces of art from Mr. Urevbu’s own collection, as well as art from clients and other local artists.
