CEO/Senior Partner Chip Marston Participates on Teach for America Business & Civic Panel

The Marston Group CEO/Senior Partner Chip Marston participated on the Teach for America Business & Civic Panel on June 3, 2014 at the Fogelman College of Business.

This panel was designed to give the newest Teach for America corps members an overview of Memphis’ history in education, the challenges the students face on a daily basis, the potential solutions to these challenges, the need for their leadership in the classroom, and the local leaders who are already involved in this work.

Mr. Marston spoke to these recruits about his own experience attending public school, the challenges that Memphis faces regarding education, and the opportunities the teachers have to make a difference. The opportunity to share with these new Memphis residents and leaders about his own love for Memphis was a very rewarding experience.

“My sister is a teacher with more than 37 years of classroom experience, so the public education system and its success is something of great interest to both me and The Marston Group community,” says Mr. Marston. “My partners and many of our employees are products of the public education system, so we really appreciate the service these young people are dedicating their lives to in our city.”

Other panelists included City of Memphis Chief Learning Officer, Douglas Scarboro; FedEx Social Responsibility Manager, Rose Flenorl; and International Paper’s Senior Vice President of Consumer Packaging & IP Asia, Tom Kadien.
