This year, TMG’s Kayla Carr, senior associate, was new to Memphis and was introduced to The New Memphis Institute by our own CEO, Chip Marston. Kayla was inspired by what she learned and decided to get involved as a way to connect with other professionals her age in her new hometown.
New Memphis Institute offered just what Kayla needed in their Embark program. The program was centered on leadership development; however, the curriculum focused on results-centered leadership in a Memphis context. Each meeting was held at a different location in Memphis, such as Emerge Memphis and BRIDGES. "The largest take away for me from the program was learning how Memphis is changing and what it has to offer,” said Kayla. “Each place we went, I was able to learn what those leaders/organizations do for the Memphis community and how Memphis has so many outreach programs for youth, small businesses and startups, etc, that make it truly unique. I also was able to spend time with my fellow cohorts and hear about their community involvement and their views of Memphis. It opened my eyes to a whole other side of Memphis, allowing me to go home and tell stories that truly represent what the city has to offer.”
